Soundtrack to a nightly walk in the woods

This is definitely one for the “beyond” section. Sofamixes puts together a modern classical mix and calls it Soundtrack to a nightly walk in the woods. Guess this is why we like the woods so much. Eine kleine Nachtmusik for forest walkers (although we might just as well be tempted to try this one out on a starry night at the beach).

Step outside. It’s night, it’s dark, rather cold, and the woods are just around the corner. Walk. What’s that sound? Listen.

Sufi Dub mixtape

Wonderfull mix by DJ UMB of Generation Bass featuring Celt Islam and the Sufi Dubstars with what perhaps was at that time the first ever qawwali dubstep track. It must be over there for about a year already, but still sounds fresh and heavy as ever.

Saetchmo's myspace friends dubmix

Found out about this one just a few days ago. Turns out it’s over there for about a year or more. Anyway, who cares. This is one hell of a dubmix, uploaded by Saetchmo who called it “my-myspace-friends DubMix“.

Check out the rest of the Saetchmo mixtapes and his radioshows and live sets as well. Strictly dub and bass!

The Way Of The Dub Vol. 7

Keiron B delivers the goodies once again with this new volume of his Way Of The Dub mix series. Expect the usual bass heavy sounds and get surprised by the likes of Bobby Brown, Nicodemus, Henry & Louis, Jah Mason, Yabby U and many more.

Special mention goes to Sunship and Warrior Queen for their “Almighty father”. Hadn’t heard this one before, but their underground souljah mix really tears the place apart.

High quality stuff!

Kode9 mix for Fact magazine

Kode9 did a special mix for Fact magazine. Featuring mostly ’94-’96 jungle. It’s only available for a very short period of time, so grab it while you can.

Over here.

While you’re enjoying the mix you can also read Martin Clark’s Pitchfork column and an interview he did with Kode9 for his Blackdown blog. The column ends with a nice quote: “The point is to create something fresh in the process of getting lost.”

Righteous & Upfront Dub

This one’s another nice mixtape mixed by Baroquedub. With this Righteous & Upfront Dub they deliver just what they promise: an excellent trip through dub territories with some sound system goodness, some breathers, some sweet harmonies, some digital roots sounds, some dubstep and even more. 21 tunes, all blended together in this mixtape that sends you drifting off to where ever you’re heading.

You can get the mix and the tracklist from the Baroquedub site. Enjoy!

Stop That Train 20

Shame on us for missing out on this newest mix that Version Big-Fi did for their Stop That Train series. It’s even a bit of an anniversary with this one being number 20 in the series. And once again it’s a killer. The festivities start off with Version Big-Fi’s very own Boom Boom featuring General Echo and they end almost an hour later with Afrikaan Beat. In between we’ve been listening to several crucial tracks blended together in an exciting aural trip.

You can get the mix and the playlist over at their blogspot. Enjoy!

Miles Davis in dub

We’re doing a re-play of this mix Grievous Angel did a few years ago. It was created way back in 2007 for the Blogariddims series. Fusion Dub is a trippy journey into Miles Davis in dub.

Trust me, this electric-Miles-meets-the echo-chamber voyage is truely amazing. We can still enjoy it as much as the first time we heard it and we’ve been relistening it several times now. That’s why we thought you should hear this one as well. Hope you like it as much as we do.
